Marriage License Information

Applicants must apply for marriage licenses at Probate Court. Both parties must be present at the time of application. No physical exam or blood tests are required. There is no waiting period.

Licenses are good the day they are issued and are good for 60 days.

They can be used in any county in Ohio.

Both parties must have their social security numbers/cards, driver’s licenses or picture ID, certified copies of most recent divorce papers or death certificates, plus dates, location, and case numbers of all previous divorces (if applicable). If from out of state or country, you must have your passport, green card, driver’s license, or picture ID.

If either party is under the age of 16, both parents or legal guardians must be present and both parties must attend counseling.

Most counties charge $50-$60 dollars cash only. Most Probate Court offices are open from 8:00 am until 4:00 or 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and are closed on weekends and legal holidays. No appointment is necessary. Please check with the applicable county office for the exact days and times they are open, their fees, general and location information, etc.
